Common Questions Answered About Hall Trees

Hall Trees: Our Most-Loved Entryway Piece (and Why)

Hall trees are one of the most popular pieces we build—and for good reason. We've designed and handcrafted hall trees for homes across the country, tailoring each one to fit the family, the space, and the daily routine.

Where Hall Trees Shine

Most hall trees live in a mudroom or front/back entry. They make coming and going easy—hang a coat, drop a bag, grab a scarf, and you're out the door. Parents love them for school routines (backpacks ready by the door), and pet owners keep leashes right on the hooks so walks start faster.

The Bench Seat Everyone Loves

The bench is a game-changer: a spot to sit and kick off shoes or boots. Under the flip-up seat, we build smart storage. Choose:

  • Partitions to create 2–3 compartments

  • Open cubbies (with or without a flip-up seat)

  • Combo layouts for hats, gloves, and grab-and-go items

We also customize compartments for things like pet-food bins or taller items you want tucked away.

Add Side Cabinets for Even More Storage

Our latest customer favorite is a side cabinet—on the left or right—to add closed storage without taking over the room. Inside, choose adjustable shelves or a hanger bar for longer coats. We've also built cabinets for laundry supplies, riding gear, and other specialty storage.

Sizing Made Simple

We size every piece to your space so it looks built-in and never blocks a walkway.

  • Depth: Typically ~19" to keep traffic flowing; we've built from 15"–24" when needed.

  • Height: Most often 72" (row of hooks) or 84" (hooks plus an upper 10" shelf or open cubbies).

  • Width: We've crafted everything from a petite 20" wide to a generous 96" wide.

Materials, Backing & Finishes

Choose reclaimed wood for timeworn character or new hardwood for a smoother, more modern look. Many customers love a classic bead-board back in the upper section. We'll finish your piece in your choice of stain or paint—from soft, neutral tones to rich, statement colors—so it complements your floors, trim, and hardware.
